In May 2010 I was invited to Brussels by Humin, a Belgian government funded programme to help SMEs create competitive advantage through design.
As part of a panel of 3 experts on their version of Dragon’s Den, I got to evaluate 30 businesses presenting future design strategies and plans.
This was an extremely well organised event and demonstrated the huge impact that design can have in helping business to flourish. It was challenging, inspirational and great fun! And that was just for myself, Richard Eisermann and Justin Knecht, the 3 Dragons.
If ever there was a lesson in making your business pitch count in under 3 minutes this was it. What did I learn after watching 30 companies try their luck:
- Have a very clear point that you want to make and stick to the point!
- Communicate with passion, not with Powerpoint
- Find the connection between you and the audience.
