As part of my role as Campaign Director for Team GB in the run up to London 2012, I’ve been working on the concept, storyboard and script for a short film that will be used to explain Our Greatest Team to the British Nation.
At the beginning of July we persuaded Sir Steve Redgrave and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson into a studio near Waterloo in London to film their appeal for 900 athletes to become 60 million strong. It’s hard not to be a bit in awe of these two amazing athletes and it really was a privilege to work with them. They couldn’t have been more tolerant, more supportive or harder working. This included poor Tanni getting completely soaked on arrival but the nice hair and make-up lady sent her back to The House of Lords looking absolutely fabulous. Even Steve got the powder treatment under excessively hot studio lights that had us all wilting. To say we sweated buckets is not an over exaggeration.
The film is being made by Phil Doherty and his production company Kinamo who I have worked with on behalf of Remploy and Sainsbury’s. And of course Sainsbury’s are a huge supporter of Paralympics GB. Small world really.
Great day all round and an amazing experience. Let’s hope the final film does justice to Sir Steve and Baroness Tanni and the rest of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
