Fancy me or not? BBC asks Rebecca what she thinks of Pret’s approach to loyalty

Pret a Manger

In yesterday’s World Business Report, the BBC discussed the revelations that, instead of introducing a standard loyalty scheme (business card + 10 stamps = free coffee), Pret a Manger have granted their staff the autonomy to give away free stuff to whoever they like!

Pret’s Chief Executive, Clive Schlee, stated “The staff have to give away a certain number of hot drinks and food every week. They will decide ‘I like the person on the bicycle’ or ‘I like the guy in that tie’ or ‘I fancy that girl or that boy’. It means 28 per cent of people have had something free. It’s a nice, different way of doing it.”*

This revelation has caused somewhat of a scandal. Many disagree that this is a ‘nice’ way to reward loyalty!

BBC World Service asked our Head of Brand, Rebecca, what she thought!

Let’s just say.. she gave as good as she got!!
